My time in the Algarve was an emotional rollercoaster, resulting in my temporary silence. Contrary to the belief that rainfall is rare in the Algarve, I experienced heavy downpours for the first 3.5 days. Although the external rain ceased, a metaphorical rain of disappointments followed suit, catching me off guard. Without dwelling on the specifics that caused me anxiety and frustration, it's important to acknowledge that no relationship lasts forever. It's time to reflect on the lessons learned, slip into comfortable loafers or elegant stilettos, and move forward without dwelling on the past.
Now, let's discuss the Visa Process, ladies and gentlemen. The lure of Portugal's alluring sales pitch enticed me: "Come to Portugal, the Visa process is a breeze"; "The Digital Nomad Visa has finally arrived, offering the smoothest process ever"; "Just visit the SEF office, they'll assist you". Little did I know that the bold print on the SEF office's front door read, "MUST HAVE AN APPOINTMENT" - a detail conveniently missed. Attempts to contact the provided phone numbers proved fruitless, and the email response system only sent an automated reply promising a response within 72 hours. It's been 28 days, and I'm still waiting. The Visa process is exceedingly complex and challenging, with no sympathy for those struggling to comprehend the intricacies or language barriers. It's oddly reminiscent of the US Visa process.
As the rain subsided and the sun reappeared, the temperature began to drop. The combination of a cool breeze and warm sunshine provided the perfect weather for a leisurely walk on the beach. It was a well-needed break for me, allowing a moment of solace and relaxation with a newfound friend by my side
With closed eyes, my worries and stress seemed to dissipate into thin air. I couldn't help but imagine a world where peace reigned supreme—no borders, no visas, no residency requirements—just freedom. However, reality quickly brought me back to Earth, reminding me that such a utopia is currently out of reach. The realization left a tinge of sadness lingering within me.
Oh, yes, I got a new job. More to come.
